Default Creating cross breeze/draft

Does anyone know how to do it. I put one of the fans seen below in my upstairs window. I've got it facing outward and I was hoping to pull air in through the other open windows in the house. Its not working though...

Are the windows on the same floor? In the same room? Anyway, here's a good link - http://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy01osti/29513.pdf

What happens with that type of fan is it pulls air in from the window that you are trying to blow out from. The negative pressure pulls air in around the air going out just like an fan on a car without a shroud it don't do much. You need a window fan that blocks off the window so the air is pulled from other parts of the house.

We use fans like these:
Honeywell Twin Window Fan - White (HW-628) : Target

They work pretty well since you can block off the opening of the window. We have two blowing out upstairs and then use one or two blowing in downstairs. Sucks the heat right out.

Go buy a cheap box fan. It fits snuggly in the window.

A round fan like that will just pull air in from the window it's sitting in and then blow it right back out. You're just recycling air in that window.

You need a tight "seal" around an exhaust fan for it to pull from other windows in the house.

$15.00 at Walmart:
