Default Computer Help

The internet is being a total behotch to me lately. I keep getting these "this page cannot be found" pages. Sometimes they come up and I just refresh and the normal page pops up. Most of the time they refuse to come up. It happens all of the time on HBT. For instance, this happens everytime I try to open the 9-9-9 Barleywine page. However, I can access page 3 of the thread. ????? WTF? Someone with some computer knowledge help me! I'm running Internet Explorer.

+1 on the Firefox. I only use IE to pay my property tax because the local gov't decided they don't want to make their systems compatible with anything else.

As far as what's causing your issues, I'm at a loss. Maybe you have some sort of add or script blocker running that doesn't like the coding for something on the pages? Probably talking out my a$$ here.

Get Firefox and see if they work then. If not and you don't like it, you can always uninstall it.

Could be a DNS problem. Try clearing out your cache, history, cookies, all that stuff that references to the porn you've been downloading and try it again.

Try repairing your connection. Right click on the icon down by your clock for your network connection and then click "repair". That'll clear your DNS and ARP caches. Not a gaurantee, but it might help.

Assuming you are on XP, go to Start -> Run and type in cmd and hit [OK]. At the command prompt enter ipconfig and hit [Enter]. Note the gateway IP, then at the prompt type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t (enter your gateway instead of the x's). Then let that run for a few minutes, and pay attention to anything that times out. After a few minutes hit [Ctrl]+[C] to stop it.

If you see timeouts there, the problem is with your internet connection. If you see no timeouts then type ping google.com -t and let that run for a few minutes. After a few minutes hit [Ctrl]+[C] to stop it again.

If you see timeouts there you can run tracert google.com from the command prompt to see where the problem lies, if it is an internet connection issue. If you see no timeouts on either test then the problem is most likely local to your PC and I would start it in safemode with network support to see of that resolves the issue. If it does, then you need to track down which software on your PC is causing it.

Have you changed your Internet security settings recently?

What's changed? Did IE update on you?

Reboot your system.
