Default Can anybody recommend a good point and shoot camera?

I have a very nice Nikon digital, but my wife would like a point and shoot. Our Nikon is a little big to carry around sometimes. Any recommendations?

I haven't been keeping up with the latest camera tech, but I like to carry around my Nikon P300 when I can't carry around my D3100. It's got decent specs for a P&S and a fast f/1.8 lens. Takes pretty decent pics. I can post a few if you'd like to see what it can do.

dpreview.com used to have some awesome DETAILED reviews of all sorts of digital cameras. There are many good ones out today. Most take very nice pictures.

For point and shoot look for low light capabilities. Longer OPTICAL zoom is nice, but they generally start to get kind of big when you increase that. I also prefer one that I can just plug into the computer via USB cable and drag photos off. I don't care for their custom software. YMMV.

Some will show a very high resolution for marketing, then degrade the image to show that they can hold more photos (more marketing). Try and find one that uses less compression.

Nothing beats seeing them side-by-side and comparing actual photos, which is why I used to love dpreview.

I have a Fuji waterproof one, it was only 300ish, takes really good pics. My daughters and I spend alot of time swimming, at the beach and water parks. Waterproof is a really cool option for point and shoot.
