Description
The Oregon Brewers Festival is one of the nation's longest running and best loved craft beer festivals. Situated on the west bank of the Willamette River, with towering Mt. Hood as a backdrop, it is the ideal venue for anyone who loves craft beer. With a laid back attitude and scores of award-winning beers, the festival reflects the essence of the city of Portland.

The Oregon Brewers Festival exists to provide an opportunity to sample and learn about a variety of craft beer styles from across the country. Eighty craft breweries from all parts of the nation offer handcrafted brews to 70,000 beer lovers during the four-day event.

The festival's focus is craft beer, but there's more than sampling involved. The event features live music all four days, beer-related vendors, beer memorabilia displays, beer writers and publishers, hop growers, homebrewing demonstrations, and an assortment of foods from a variety of regions. The Crater Lake Root Beer Garden offers complimentary handcrafted root beer for minors and designated drivers. Minors are always welcome at the festival when accompanied by a parent.

The Oregon Brewers Festival strongly encourages responsible drinking, and urges patrons to take advantage of the MAX Light Rail line, located just one block west of the festival on SW Oak Street. Go by bus, train or taxi, just don't drink and drive. The festival also offers free, on-site bicycle parking.

The Oregon Brewers Dinner, a ticketed event, is held on July 22; the Oregon Brewers Brunch & Parade, the official kick off to the festival, occurs the morning of July 23.

I'm going to be in Portland that weekend, but will probably only be dropping by the festival for a few hours when we have some free time. Some family is flying out and we're going to meet up in Portland for a long weekend.

I'm pretty certain that Don (Brewtopia) will be there

I plan to be, but you won't catch me there after Friday night. It's just too much and impossible to really have a good time.

I'll be there. Coming down on Thursday, leaving Sunday. I'll be at the festival early on Thursday, skip Friday, as Kilted Brewer mentioned, just way to crowded. Rest of the weekend will consist of pub crawls and brewer's parties. Always a great time!

I went last year. We were heading to Depoe Bay and stopped in Portland to visit a friend. Just happened to be one of the days of the festival.

Great beer.

I am going for sure. The key is to get there Thursday at noon. By the time the crowd is a problem there is no problem if you know what I mean :)

If we're going, it'll be before Friday. We went last year on Saturday and it was a cattle call. NOT fun!

That looks like a scam, actually. Tickets to get in? It's free to get in, you pay to get mugs and tokens.

Damn, I really wish I could make it.

I think a buddy who is a non-posting member here Home Brew Talk - Porter4me will be coming down. I'll try to point him in the direction of some of you all if he does.

We'll be going on Friday, hopefully we'll get there before the lines get too long. Just took advantage of the half off discount.. thanks Picobrew for the heads up on the deal. :)

Just remember you gotta pick it up at the radio station! I think they say when on the website. I bought four of those discount packs for my friends. I can have a lot more tastes this year!! :ban:

Just got my gift cert in the mail for the OTHER brewfest, the international one this weekend, which incidentally has a lot more beer! (like 140+). This gift cert was $20 for $40 but it only covers the $20 entry fee for 2 people (2mugs, 20 tokens), so you need two people to use it. The gift cert for the OBF was discussed on the Oregon Brew Crew listserv and some people said it was good toward a specific $50 pack and other people said it was a gift cert that you could use for anything. Anyways, it's sold out now.

Portland International Beer Fest starts tomorrow, and I'll probably be there when they open!

I will be there on Saturday, this will be my first year. Have my grandpa coming up from Fresno to join me. Hopefully, we will get to taste all of the beer. However, i have heard it get's crazy busy on the weekend. I have never heard of the Portland International Beer Fest, will have to plan on doing that next year.

Hopefully, we will get to taste all of the beer

A very ambitious plan. Looks like they'll have about 80 beers. I've been going for five years and even restricting myself to beers I've never tried is a stretch. Last year, I only sampled dark beers that I've never had. That was manageable and the lines were shorter.

I won't be making it but a buddy of mine will be there on Saturday afternoon. I told him to check in with Brewtopia.

I will keep that in mind, not sure i could sample 80 different beer types. I could try my best, probably need to get a hotel up there.

What kind of food do they generally offer?

There's a variety of food I can't remember the vendors the one I've ate at most was Rogue Pizza. I wore pretzel necklace last year so I had something to cleanse my palette between beers.

Sucks I missed out on the pre-sale deal but still a great festival. Anyone have any must drink beers?

OBF restaurants
Greek
African ???
Fish & chips
Burgers, fries & sandwiches
German
Pizza
Salmon sandwiches, salads, fries, elephant ears

I generally don't stick around for a meal at fests. Made an exception to that at the BBQ and Beer fest in McMinneville. Had the absolute WORST taco I've ever tried to eat. It was advertised as smoked bacon, but was nothing more than chunks of uncooked fatback. After the first bite, I tried to pick out the meaty parts, but there weren't any. I mean, NONE. It was worse than a goat rotti I had in Antigua about 30 years ago.

Looks like I'm going to OBF on Thursday at Noon and also Friday at Noon! Whoopee. Hoping to ride my bike there, but if I have other non-cyclists with me, we will probably take the shuttle from Rogue in the pearl.

I'm leaving Seattle first thing in the morning. Should be at the fest by noon. You'll know me by my Naked City T-shirt

Don-
Probably won't be there till after work. Maybe around 4ish or so. You still be around? I may have a gift for you...And I want my free token so I'll be in a NC shirt too! :)

Yea, I should still be around. I'll PM you my number. Give me a call when you get to the fest.

So who went and how was it?

I was unable to attend because well............life sucks sometimes. I swear anytime there is an event I really want to attend 3-4 other things come up that I either want to do also or have to do. This time it was my oldest son's hunter safety classes. So I was not able to attend and days at the brewfest because his classes were everyday that the brewfest was going.
