Default Wire Size for Valves

I have some valves (ebay values) which show a rating of 24VAC, 22VAmps, 22Watts.

What size wire would be appropriate for these valves? I assume I want to go slightly larger than expected in case they have trouble opening/closing and start pulling mass current? Should each valve be fused separately?

I was thinking about 24awg, using Cat5 cable to run to multiple valves at a time. Makes the wiring 10x easier. My fear is that the wire is too small and I should be running 18-20awg.

Experts, please tell me what to do!

If you're planning on multiple valves and want to group the wires in a common sheath then consider thermostat wire from a HVAC supplier. I think it's available with 8 or 9 conductors of 20GA which should work fine.

This is brilliant, thank you! I didn't even know this existed, but it looks like exactly what I need. Thanks again!

22w @ 24v = 0.91 amps

26ga will carry 1.3A, MAX

that should be ok, but if you want some extra headroom...
24ga will carry 2.1A max

also instead of solenoid valves, i recomend motorized ball valves....
(these are even nearly the same price, too)
