I was at the hardware store today to pick up some eyelets, the power cable for the HLT and asked a few questions. I was told silicone would not be necessary.

I just drilled out the turkey fryer/HLT and drilled it with a bi-metal 1 1/8" in diameter. The element is 1 1/4 but the guy at the store suggested drilling smaller then filing it to fit to ensure snugness. I did so - and it seems great.

I am going for supper but will check for leaks after supper - prior to plugging it in. If there are no leaks THEN I'll power it up with some water to see how long it takes.

Some sealants have enough acetic acid to cause a problem with certain metals. It's easy to find sealants that don't, you just should be knowledgeable about it before potting electric connections with it.

I used only liquid electric tape on mine.
