so had some free time today and started to sketch up some ideas for the HERMS system i'm looking to build. this iteration uses a lot of 3 way ball valves so that you don't have to connect/disconnect hoses so many times, and the idea would be to pipe everything in stainless. I work for a mechanical contractor and we do a lot of big jobs for pharmeceutical/bio/food/medical clients so I have access to a lot of free fittings/valves/welding.
I have a few questions/concerns:
1) some of the valves will handle both pre-boil and post boil wort, is this a concern for sanitary reasons? obviously the equipment would be completely sanitized prior to brewing.
2) obviously this would be intense to clean, but would it be necessary to completely tear it down after each use? or would running sanitized solution through everything be sufficient?
Obviously this isn't a final plan, just something i dreamed up today, so don't hate on it too hard!!! Still in schematic design! Long ways to go before i actually build anything.
