Hi, I'm brewing my first batch of kombutcha. On the second day of putting in the SCOBY, one of the tenants in my home, not knowing what the jar contained, put the lid over the jar without screwing it on. There may have been some air flow, but it would be very little.

She said she put it on in the afternoon so it must have been on anywhere from 4-6 hours.

Would the SCOBY have survived this temporary cut-off in oxygen?

Yes, It is for sure ok. People (including myself) keep scobys in a "scoby hotel" which for me is a sealed tuperware container. I keep it closed for weeks at a time, until I need to add more tea. The scoby's are completely viable and healthy after that period of time.
