Default Yeast starter smells like cardboard?!?!?

Any thoughts? It had been taking a slower time to get going vs. my bavarian lager wyeast starter, so I took a sniff and smelt cardboard. It's a belgian saison yeast from white labs. Cause for major concern?

Cardboard usually means oxidation, which is something you want as much of as possible in a starter. Decant off the spent wort and you should be fine.

Scimmia is right....as long as you decant the beer off of the yeast and pitch only the yeast you should be fine....
