Three years ago I decided to start a frozen yeast bank with 5 Wyeast strains.
Now, three years later I can report this has worked extremely well without a problem in fact and I've added a couple more.

I'm keen to get hold of a few more strains, if anyone else is into freezing brewing yeast and wants to get in touch with a view to sharing strains, and lives around the Waikato, I have the following:
Danish Lager 2042
Czech Pils 2278
Bohemian 2124
London Ale 1028
American Ale 1056
Belgian Strong Ale 1388
Belgian Ardennes 3522

I'd like to do an Oktoberfest, and I'd like to brew something using American Ale II 1272 for a comparison with 1056. Also perhaps an Irish Ale.

Also if anyone is interested in starting something similar for themselves, its not that hard and the cost savings are awesome. Just ask away... I can also help with how to build a poor mans stir plate... dead easy, none of your electronic bits and bobs reqd. Just one or two cheap items available at Dick Smith or Jaycar.
Cheers.
