My friend's wedding is coming up and we're setting out to brew all the beer for the event. We brewed the first three on Saturday (two Heffs and one APA). Ah Summer brews... Anyways, I looked in on them Sunday afternoon and the three piece airlocks were completely foaming out on the wheat beers. I had forgotten how overactive wheat beer yeast can get. I caught it just as the foam was hitting the hardwood floor. A couple of rubber storage tubs came to the rescue. One of the airlocks got clogged and completely blew off. A day later the APA did the same thing and it wasn't even as active. It was the two new airlocks I just bought at the winery down the street! I noticed as I was cleaning them out and re-sanitizing that the bottom of the airlocks had a plastic "X" across the opening. It was blocking the yeasty foam from escaping. I cut that sucker out. Also, I decided to cut some larger holes in the top snap-on cap to the airlock because that was all clogged too.
