Default Stop and Start Starter

OK, so I have made a Stir-Plate but I don't trust my electrical skills enough to leave it on overnight. If I wanted to brew on Sunday could I set the starter up on Saturday, leave it running during the day, turn the Stir-Plate off at night, and then re-start it on the Sunday morning?

Would that, a) give it enough time, and b) not bugger it up?

Thanks in advance!

You probably don't even need to restart the stirplate as long as you have it going early. Unless you're using seriously old yeast a stirred starter should be done in 20 hours max. In your scenario, I would leave it on until I went to bed and figure it is fine to cold crash by morning. It won't stop fermenting because the plate stops, and it won't have much sugar left after 12+ hours agitated.
