Default Starter for 10 gallon batch

I have always only done 5 gallon batches. This weekend I'd like to make 10 gallons of a recipe that just doesn't seem to last long in my house. To save money could I just use one packet of 1056 with a good starter? If so, how much dme to water do I need?

Sure can. Use either of these calculator to figure out your starter size. I find the yeastcalc one to be especially helpful if you're doing a stepped starter (which you may need to do here, depending on the size of the starter.) I always use 4 oz (by weight) of DME to a quart of water. Cheers!

i have just done 2- 10gal batches with 1 vial for each. i made a 2l starter and let it go for 24-36hrs, decanted, and made another 2l starter. poured half in one carboy and half in the other. both started to ferment after 12hrs.

I used the brewers friend site because it breaks it down a little more to help a beginner like myself. very simple to follow.
