Default Secondary fermenting in closed glass bottles

I'm brewing a highly hopped-up lager with Pilsner yeast. I plan to keep it in the primary fermenter for 7 days at 48-50 degrees. I wanted to do an experiment with dry hopping with different hops, so I wanted to use half gallon glass bottles for secondary fermentation. Would I be fine just using the cap so it is airtight, or would I need some way to blow it off?

You will need some way to relieve pressure unless you want a big messy bang.

You could either fit the bottles with an airlock or even just cover them with some sterilized foil.

If you've reached your final gravity and checked it over a few days for stability, it should be safe. Even so, to be safe I'd use sanitized foil and a rubber band.

Thanks, I'll use sanitized foil and a rubber band.
