Default S-04 Yeast cakes....

Are animals. The yeast cake is from a 1.055 Oktoberfest Ale. I just pitched a 1.088 Chocolate stout on it @67 degrees and I literally have a ton of airlock activity 45 minutes later. I've never seen anything like this. I've pitched onto wlp001 and 1028 yeast cakes before and it took them at least 8 hours.

They are beasts. I usually sanitize a ladle and discard at least 1/2 of a cake like that. Helps to keep things under control.

I'm sure I overpitched but I really wanted to get it going so it will be done by christmas. I've now got it down to around 65 and rigged with a blow off thats doing its job.

Thats a great idea RC. Not sure why I didn't think of doing that.
