what happens if i add both lager and ale yeast to the same wort? will 1 kill off the other 1?

doubt it. one would definitely dominate the other, probably based on who had the best conditions, i.e. ale would dominate in warm environments, lager in cool environments. although i'm not sure i'd personally do the experiment, maybe someone else has. if you do, definitely post your results.
