Default Racked to to secondary, left yeast cake w/ layer of beer

I had a few things go haywire and I was unable to have everything ready to harvest/wash this yeast cake. A friend of mine told me that if I left the cake with a little beer covering it that I would still be able to harvest it within a couple of days.

What is the general consensus on this?

How should I be storing the empty carboy with the yeast cake?

Thanks in advance!

Just dump the cake into a sanitized canning jar and call it good. This slurry isn't as "clean" as perfectly washed yeast, but it is just as potent if not more so. And you can always wash it later. Id be concerned about all the air contact you will have if you leave it in the fermenter. Get it in a jar and into the fridge.
