Default Porter Stuck Fermentation

I have a Porter in primary. Brewed on Saturday 11/17. OG was 1.044. Just took hydro reading and it is 1.024 (target 1.010-1.012). No activity in airlock after first couple of days. Temp is 64 degrees. I have heard some people says to gently stir in order to "rouse" the yeast. Also have seen adding in some type of fermentable to help (candi sugar?). Also local homebrew shop told me I could add a packet of "universal" dry yeast. Which optin would you guys recommend? Thanks a lot!

Warm it up a bit and swirl the fermenter to wake the yeast up.

IT sounds like you're fermenting along just fine. I'd say leave it be and you should be 100% good to package in a week. Gravity readings will tell you the rest of the tale, for sure, though.

Agreed. a second hydrometer reading will tell you if it is still moving. At this point it sounds like the temperature might just be a little on the low side for the yeast, which isn't a bad thing. You'll have a clearer profile in your beer.

Here are the top ten reasons you might have a stuck FG:

and the top ten ways to restart it:

What yeast? Is it OK at 64 F?

Where is the fermenter placed? In a basement on a concrete floor, the beer could be colder than the surrounding temperature as the heat transfer through the floor is much greater than thru air. Just some thoughts; may not be applicable.

I'd try and move it to a warmer location before messing with it.
