Default Porter good but dry with Nottingham

I made a porter, which I'm really enjoying, but think it ended up a bit too dry. I used Nottingham yeast. What might be a better option for next time around?

you can still use notty, just mash higher to give you more unfermentables.

To answer the OP's question Fermentis S04 is a dried yeast that will leave more residuals behind than Nottingham.

Will it? I haven't used notty much, but I use s-04 all the time and have gotten around 80% attenuation on multiple occasions

The PDF on their website says "medium final gravity"

http://www.fermentis.fr/FO/pdf/HB/EN/Safale_S-04_HB.pdf

I bet if he did a side by side one batch with notty and one batch with S04 the S04 would finish higher....

LOL.

This is the exact opposite of what I was told at my LHBS when I asked about Notty, because I had never used it.

Further evidence that this one particular guy that works at my LHBS doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. I had that impression of him from the day I met him and he just keeps giving me evidence to back it up.
