Default How to Make Yeast

Hey i am new to brewing and was thinking of growing my own hops and i saw a book on amazon about making your own yeast. How do you do it? I read an article someon posted on a previous thread but the responses didnt really help so i was wondering if anyone really knew how to do it, or should i just spend the extra 13 bucks and get the book and read about it that way. Does anyone really know about it, or has a book i can read about it? Or is it to much work for only saving urself 3 bucks?

You can't really make yeast, you need to start with at least a small population. You can save some and feed it to grow the culture, or you can take a bottle conditioned beer and grow the culture that is there. I would say stick with purchasing yeast until you are confident in your sanitation process.

Yeast are live organisms so unless you know a secret that scientists don't, you can't make yeast. You can capture wild yeast. That's how we got the strains that are now used. However, there are lots of wild yeasts that make beer that isn't particularly pleasant to drink so you might have to try multiple times to get one that you like. Good luck if you decide to try it.
