I recently built a Son of Fermentation Chiller http://knoxhomebrewer.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=61:fe rmentatio-nchiller&catid=38:diy-projects&Itemid=82 I brewed up a Patersbier extract yesterday, and am using it for the first time. It works excellent and temp. stays very consistent.

Down coat... good idea... and probably a nice fit to boot. Works much better than just swapping out bottles or keeping wet shirt or towel around a carboy.

I forget where it came from (Brewing Network, BYO or the like), but putting your fermenter in a trash can, putting a tshirt over it, filling with water up 2/3 up the side of the carboy, then putting a box fan on top blowing in works damn well. Basically a swamp cooler. It's a dirty fix but works. Just make sure there is space along the sides of the fan for air to escape.

I built me a Son of Fermentation Chiller, it works pretty good. Would work better if I built it better but it gets the job done. I live in Mexico and its hot as ****. Just got to keep an eye on it woke up this morning and it rose up to 75 so im not too happy but that was my fault.

The first few days are most important correct??? After a week can i just let it ride and not change any water bottles out or is there still a temp range i need to stay below?

That's very cool (sorry ). I"m going to replace my 18 gallon water filled tote with that, should help keep the ice utilization down quite a bit.
