Default Had my first explosion!

Brewed the Green Flash West Coast IPA clone on Saturday, and it's been VIGAROUSLY fermenting since. I didn't put a blow-off tube on, and when I got home from work yesterday, I actually witnessed the airlock pop about 3 ft. in the air. The airlock was clogged with trub... really cool!

Awesome! I always figure explosions mean that the beer is so good the carboy just can't contain it!

Yeah, it's a pretty big beer 1.070, and I pitched a pretty big starter of 1056. Should have put the blowoff tube on.. it's on now

There are few times when the word "always" can be used when discussing brewing.

That being said...... always use a blow off. Always.

I am simply amazed at the amount of blow offs, explosions, wet ceilings and ruined carpets there are on the forum. Why don't people always use blowoffs????????

Cheers Pez.
