Hey all,

I know a lot of people wash yeast used during the fermentation of a beer and I understand the concept. But what I haven't ever seen is someone growing yeast from a fresh vial (or smack pack) and packaging it for use later. I was thinking I could just buy some 1056, make a huge starter on my stir plate and split it into 4 mason jars. Then when I need yeast, make a starter with one of the mason jars. Is there any downside to this that I am not thinking of? Would this work?

This is pretty similar to what I do in my Yeast Harvesting, a non-slant method.
