Default Ginga Kogen Star Bottle - Bottled Yeast Question

Hi ! I successfully cultured yeast from a bottle of this beer but I'm wondering if anyone has done this before or knows what kind of yeast they use.

Their website says its an unfiltered hefeweizen. I can't get my hands on any hefeweizen yeast out here in Japan do I'd like to use this to make a hefe if it's possible.

Is there anyway to tell if it's a hefe yeast? Should I just try it and see?

Beerzilla,

Don't know, but Ginga's been at it for a while and I suspect it's a house strain.

You can get hefe yeast in Japan. You can order beer for delivery online, or get it from an online HBS.
Order non-Japanese beers from Ezo beer:
http://www.ezo-beer.com/eng/index.htm
Order Japanese beers (sorry, no English) from:
http://www.craftbeers.jp/
Here's a list of more links:

Due to JP laws, I don't want to put the HBS URL here, but PM me if you're interested.

You can always have stuff shipped from the US or Australia too. That's what I do when all else fails.

Default Banana EXPLOSION

hey

I just tried the sample I've had in my fridge again. Initially, it tasted a bit citrus-sour but it's been a week and it now tastes like a banana bomb. So I'm positive this is the yeast used in fermentation. I'm gonna put it in edwort's hefeweizen recipe and see how it goes. I have high hopes!!
