Ok, I feel like this is a stupid questions that's opening myself up for a lambasting...but let me add my disclaimer now, I'm not "planning" on doing this, just wondering if it's a good/bad idea.

Can you ferment in a Poland Spring type water bottle?? What are the pros/cons of it??

It's been done - someone here posted a description of a quickie test batch using a 2.5 gallon water jug as the fermenter. He punched a hole in the top for an airlock, used the water to make a wort, and ended up with beer.

Upside: cheap single-use container
Downside: cheap single-use container. Integrity of spigot is crucial.

I think if I did use one, I would treat it just like a regular carboy / better bottle...and use a stopper & airlock rather than the cap that comes on it.
