Newbie question but I'm brewing for the first time in a bucket (only brewed one other time glass bottle) - how can I check to see if fermentation is taking place properly after three days without removing the lid?
trust your ability and believe that it is working...
you could shine a light through the bucket, and see if you can tell if there is krausen by the shadows
Kegged - empty!
Bottled - 30th birthday barleywine, caramel gingerbread quad, doppelbock dunkel, Caramel Quad/RUMCAKE, Diastasis (Wild Rice Saison), Cider
Primary - Lambic!, Dopplebock/Eisbock
Thanks. I probably wouldn't have thought to ask but the age of the yeast was questionable. Lid seems to have puffed a little but I'm only brewing a gallon in a 5-gallon bucket.
A gallon in that big of a bucket is way too much headspace IMHO.
Is the airlock not working? Since you have that much space I doubt peeking is gonna hurt as long as you don't stick anything in the bucket or go get a burger with the lid off.
