Default Bells Hopslam Ferm problems?

We did 10 gal of Bells and used 1st generation 05 yeast... Both carboys finished out at 1.012 which was awesome... We started putting them in the basement at a constant 68 degrees.. But one of the carboys is almost green with trub, and the other is perfect... Made starter for both, the green one is still bubbling, while the other has no activity... I put the one out in the garage to cold crash... Any ideas?

Thanx

One of them got filled from the BK first?

I suspect one of the carboys got most of the hop particles.

They both finished at the same FG, so they both fermented fine. Have you taste tested them to see if there is any difference in flavor?

Not only that, but the one with the larger amount of hop particles would have more CO2 nucleation sites and may bubble more easily. I would bet it's fine.

brilliant! that's how it goes when you split a batch. one fermenter gets the bulk of the hops and break material, the other's usually quite clean. the difference in the beer will be negligible if you did the same thing with both batches, but they sure look and act different, huh?

It would be very interesting to see if a blind taste test revealed any differences in the finished product. Some advocate leaving break material in the fermentor as nutrition, some advocate avoiding as much as possible to promote a cleaner tasting/appearing final product.

Yes, this. It would be cool to compare them later. Let us know!

my experiences say it'll be a minimal difference at best. a really light beer may pick up some hops from them being in the ferment, but that probably wouldn't be much and tends to really only show in a really light lager. side by side, there may be some very minor differences, but there may not be. i'd say in something like a HS clone, even the most sensitive of palates would have a hard time distinguishing the two.
