Default 6 month old LME for yeast starters

I broke a thermometer while steeping grains during one of my batches and had to dump it. I have 5# of Extra Pale LME that I was going to toss but after some reading I found that people use even older LME. I think I should be ok using it for starters even though its old and its not Extra Light LME.

What quantity should I use for a starter?

Old school or the new, doesnt mean a thing if your heart's not true!

Old LME is fine for starter as long as it isn't growing mold or something. Use enough for an OG of around 1.035. Read the starter tutorial on

Random Fact: Human Immunodeficiency Virus particles have approximately the same density of 1.170 wort. I know because I float them on a sucrose gradient in the lab to purify them for research.

Primary: nada

Drinking: Belgian strong golden, Northern Brown, Porter
