I found these when geeking out on barrels a month ago or so:

Oak Barrels & Kegs - Product: Oak Barrel - 5.28 gallons (20 liter) Black Hoop

They are well priced, but I can't vouge for anything else about them as I have not pulled the trigger on one yet.

Similar ones I found on different sites all seemed to be in the $150 range.

I have a little 2L one from them. They're nice as you could expect for the price. I'm going to get the 5 gallon one soon. You'd want to run a beer through it before storing something for long, being new and toasted the oak will be strong.

Other than the cool factor, you could purchase at least 3 glass carboys for the cost of one barrel. You can oak with cubes, spirals or whatever you wish. Cubes and etc. will oak much faster so be sure to research your option and to taste test often.

Steelers77 from Farmhouse Brewing sells them at a great price through a thread here. Got a 5gal rum barrel for about $100.

The barrels are American white oak with a medium toast, and are used once by a small distiller and then sold. In addition to the rum barrels, there are whiskey barrels and apparently there will soon be tequila barrels.

I actually prefer them used, as do many brewers. The first batch in it will have a harsher oakiness anyways, and the bit of high quality rum (or other liquor) left in the barrel can make the first batch you put into it really special, and people have even just poured it out - though much will remain absorbed in the wood itself - with some of them supposedly getting up to nearly a fifth of quality liquor outta them... though I wouldn't *count* on getting so much.

Do you want this for cask aging or do you want it for serving cask ales? If you want it for aging I'd go with a barrel from Farmhouse Brewing.

If you want to serve real ale from a cask, you can go to ukbrewing.com or geemacher.com. I just got a geemacher one for chrismas and it's nice. I just need to get the bungs.
