Perforated, domed false bottoms custom made for NB from 304 stainless steel. The low dome (the 9" and 10" models are 1/2" high at the top of the dome; the 12" is 3/4") maximizes the capacity of your latuer tun while minimizing foundation space — less foundation space means greater efficiency. A common complaint with plastic false bottoms is that they are too bouyant and can float, which isn't an issue with a stainless false bottom. A brass elbow fitting with a 3/8" barb in the center allows outflow of liquid from beneath the dome; use hi-temp tubing (#7103) to connect to the spigot or drain.

The 9" false bottom fits 5 gallon Rubbermaid coolers, the 10" fits 6 gallon buckets, and the 12" fits 10 gallon Rubbermaid coolers.

Pros: Beefy - solid - fits PERFECT - hinge allows for easy in/out and cleaning
Cons: NONE!

Comments: JAYBIRD's FALSE BOTTOM

I'm that guy that is always looking for a way to do something cheaper or DIY.
After trying multiple different approaches, i finally bit the bullet and bought the hinged 15" for my keggle mash tun.

I will say this - with no reservation - the best purchase i've made in my brewery. first time out, I put this thing through its paces with a 10 Gal Partigyle brew day. It performed FLAWLESSLY. Plenty of foundation space to direct heat a mash tun and do step mash, enough surface area to recirc at fairly high rates without worrying about sucking the grainbed to the bottom.

LOVE this thing!

Pros: Does a great job of setting the grain bed and maintaining it.
Cons: I bought the 12 in. which is difficult to remove inside my 10 gallon cooler mash tun due to inner coupler and pipe nipple.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I purchased my SS false bottom at MoreBeer. I was converting a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler to a mashtun. I purchased the 12 in, as opposed to the 9 in, because it perfectly matched the inner dimensions of the cooler. The only problem with using a 12 in SS false bottom inside of a 10 gallon cooler is removal. To connect the false bottom to any ball valve requires the addititon of a weldless bulkhead fitting. Part of the false bottom sits beneath this bulkhead, so you can't remove it without removing the entire bulkhead. I thought cleaning would be an issue, but it wasn't. I spray some water down into the cooler and the most if not all of the grain flows out.

Price: $39.00
Pros: good quality, false bottoms give good use of surface area
Cons: wort outlet is only 3/8", 1/2" would be nice but if you fly sparge it may not be an issue anyway
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I purchased this from MoreBeer.com and am satisfied with what it offers. The product is as described on their site, and has been the best value I've found for a cooler false bottom of this sort. My only complaint is that the outlet is 3/8" instead of 1/2", but it's not a huge deal for the most part. I just try to use 1/2" for everything so it throws a hitch in that idea of my setup.

Price: $70.00
Pros: sturdy, balanced, effective
Cons: really tight tolerance between pot and screen
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Strains most of the hop leaf from clogging drain when placed in the Brew Kettle.
There have been no issues with the welds on the feet, i.e.) rust or cracks.
Never had a stuck mash and wort clarity is mighty acceptable.
You have to be gentle inserting and taking it out of the pots.
