I bought some rhizomes through Farmhouse Brewing and found that I won't be able to plant them afterall. Garden space and dog safety are going to win out unfortunately.

I saw somewhere that there have only been 6 confirmed cases of dogs being poisoned by hops. They were all one breed of dog also. We have an indoor dog. If she was an outdoor dog I likely wouldn't have hops in the back yard. Better safe than sorry.

I took a pound of hops, put them in a bowl and set them on the ground like I was giving my dogs a treat. They walked over, smelled them, and walked away. My dogs have no interest in hops. I think this is the easiest way to test whether your dogs will even try them.

Having said that, it is true that they can harm dogs and equally true that the numbers are low. There are many threads on this were sort of off topic for a classified. Shrugs.
