Pros: Removes most of the trube from the wort after the boil.
Cons: can be a place for bacteria to hide so you need to clean and sanitize it well.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I think the bazooka screen works better than a false bottom in my opinion. I have had both, and the smaller pathways in the screen seem to filter out more trube.

Pros: Clears wort very fast inside mash tun and all stainless steel.
Cons: none
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Very great product. I bought the 1/2" model and replaced my CPVC manifold with this and it clears the wort usually in one 2 qt pass.

Price: $18.00
Pros: incredibly sturdy, easy to attach/detach, barely pricier than homemade dishwasher hose constructions, excellent screening
Cons: available in 12" at most places, but can easily be rolled back to fit smaller coolers without damaging its structure or strength
Recommended? Yes

Comments: can't imagine paying many times as much for a false bottom when these things work perfectly

Pros: Rigid and will not collapse easily
Cons: none
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I easily pulled mind off the piece of 1" long 1/2" ID threaded stock. switched it out for a 2" long piece and shoved 1-1/2" in and no worries now.

Pros: Awesome cheap alternative to false bottom
Cons: None
Recommended? Yes

Comments: This is a great alternative to false bottom. My local beer store (homebrew heaven) sells the weld less ball lock and installs it for free for under $30.

Price: $20.00
Pros: - Very durable - Can be used for lautering or as a filter on the inside of your kettle ball valve to keep break material out of your fermenting chamber
Cons: - Clogged very easily by pellet hop crap
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I really like this sucker -- I use one for my batch sparging process and another as a filter on the inside of my kettle's ball valve.

My only caution is not to rely on this thing to be a cure-all problem to keeping pellet hop crap out of your fermenter. It will be clogged super easy if you haven't gotten all of the hop material to drop to the bottom of the kettle. Granted, this can somewhat be solved by scraping a sterilized spoon across it while the ball valve is open -- it's just a pain in the ass.

zymico Bazooka Screen
Pros: Great for filtering Hops
Cons: Hard to clean out any particles that make it through and get stuck inside.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I have the Bazooka T in my boil kettle and I think that it works great! I use both pellet and whole hops and it works really well with the combination of the two types, not too great for pellet only brews. One down fall is it is kind of annoying to try and get the particles that get stuck inside out. I would recomend this to anyone who is looking for an alternative to a false bottom.

Cheers

zymico Bazooka Screen
Pros: Industrial duty, Works great
Cons: Will cut the crap out of you reaching into your sanitizer to retrieve it.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I use one in my Mash Tun and one in my Wort Kettle. Never had a stuck sparge. Keeps the big stuff out of my pump and everything running smooth. Does not get out all of the hot break or cold break or hop pellets but it is great for sparging and reducing solids before racking. I rack through mine also.

zymico Bazooka Screen
Price: $16.00
Pros: Awsome at straining out leaf hops
Cons: Has a hard time with pellet hops
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I use this in my brew kettle to strain out hops. It works great with whole hops. No matter how many hops I have added it was able to let the wort flow and keep out the hops. It will not stop pellet hops. It is very solid and well made. It is a great addition to you brew kettle. Would also work in the mash tun I would guess.
