The New Brewing Lager Beer (Noonan): This is perhaps one of the best and most informative resources for the serious brewer. Noonan goes into great depth on all the aspects of brewing from grains to beer and all points in between. This is a great resource even if you are not a lagering brewer.

Price: $1.00
Pros: Good intro to theory of Lagers and some technical information.
Cons: Unfortunately this text is very out of date in some of its science and practices. I am afraid that if you followed Noonan's advice without doing any other research you would spend many hours doing steps and procedures that are not necessary. In bits and pieces the book is good but as an overall "cookbook" for those who follow Noonan's advice without a grain of salt it is inefficient.

Gregory Noonan New Brewing Lager Beers
Pros: Excellent technical presentation of lager beer brewing.
Cons: Well over the head of the neophyte.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Intermediate and experienced brewers should have this book in their libraries, whether or not they brew lager beer. Full of excellent technical information and practical advice. Noonan assumes a certain level of expertise, however, and the information and the style in which it is presented will likely leave the neophyte lost.

Highly recommended.

Gregory Noonan New Brewing Lager Beers
Pros: This book has a lot of good information related to brewing lagers.
Cons: Focuses on decoction mashing and some of the chemical structures have errors.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: If you want to learn about lagers and mashing them using decoction mashing, this is the book for you. The book also has good general information on ingredients and the technical aspects of brewing. I can't say i have ever encountered a 4 rowed barley though.

Gregory Noonan New Brewing Lager Beers
Price: $19.95
Pros: Very indepth
Cons: Hard to follow sometimes
Recommended? Yes

Comments: This is a overall beer book, which leans to the lager side. You can use this book if you are only doing ales at the time. The yeast section covers lager yeast but also most of the information can be used with ales. This might be the most scientific book I have ever read.

I would recomend this book for brewers who want to improve there beers but beginers might get lost.
