STAR SAN is a blend of phosphoric acid and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid. This synergistic blend provides a unique killing system that is unaffected by excessive organic soils. STAR SAN is also a selffoaming sanitizer. It can be applied through a foamer to produce self-adhering sanitizing foam for external sanitation. STAR SAN is also an excellent sanitizer for hand application. Sanitizing with STAR SAN on a daily basis will leave equipment in a acid condition that will eliminate water spotting. It is not recommended to use STAR SAN on soft metals because of the acid nature of this product.

Comments: Don't fear the foam!

Starsan is the bomb! The best sanitizer you can use. It has low contact time and the foam gets into all the nooks and crannies so you can be sure your gear is sanitized.

Comments: Don't fear the foam! Wow, this stuff is so great...really takes a LOT of the hassle out of sanitation. Dunk, swish, spray, or swirl, and 30 seconds later your item is sanitized. One small bottle lasted me over a year. Why use anything else?

Comments: Really good stuff. I keep some in a spray bottle, some in a garden sprayer, and then mix buckets of it as needed.

Pros: Easy to use, easy measuring bottle, won't stain, lasts long time
Cons: foams in the bottle rinser
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I use Iodophor in my bottle rinser before they go on the drying tree rack, but for everything else I use Star San. Nothing is easier to measure with the easy measure bottle and if you knock it over the stuff won't stain the carpet and floor. You can put a quart in a carboy and slosh it all around where it foams up and then let the carboy drain. If there is some foam or liquid left, it is fine and won't bother a thing. The foam in the bottles is the only downside to using Star San.
It also will last a long time if mixed and kept in a spray bottle or a gallon jug. As long as the mix is clear it is good. If it gets cloudy it has turned bad. I have had some in a spray bottle for almost a year and it still is clear. Good stuff to have around. Better than bleach!

Pros: Quick, Easy, Fast Sanitizing, Foam
Cons: Foam
Recommended? Yes

Comments: By far the best sanitizer. No Rinse!

Foam is a concern only if bottles and carboys are not allowed to dry inverted for at least a half hour. The foam appears to get into all the scratches and crevices better than other products.

Best thing about this product is what ever you sanitize stays sanitized due to the thin film it leaves as it dries.

The diluted product can be used over and over which saves $$. Buy the big bottle it is usually cheaper per oz.

Pros: Fast, no rinse, easy to measure and use.
Cons: Foam when bottling.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: I love this product and the only time I use another product is at bottling time. I use a bottle tree with a vinter bottle rinser. I tried using star san the first time and it filled the bottle with bubbles - that part was great. The problem came when I went to fill the bottles, the foam came out in volumes preventing me seeing exactly when the beer reached the top of the bottle. I use iodophor for that rinse only.
Other than that I use Star San for everything else. As a person who would forget his head if it wasn't screwed on I love being able to see the foam and know I have just sanitized something.
I got over the thing about racking over the foam and do it with impudence. Never a care in the world that it will have a negative effect on my beer. Never has, never will. Never have to worry about spilling it on anything that might stain or accidently killing my yeast.

Pros: fast contact time, ease of use
Cons: bubbles
Recommended? Yes

Comments: Star san is easy to use and effective. The bubbles are sometims troublesome but can actually help protect a surface from contamination when the bubbles are between the air and the surface.

Pros: It is a fast, effective, well priced sanitizer.
Cons: Leaves many bubbles when aerated.
Recommended? Yes

Comments: This is the standard sanitizer. I like it because of the quick contact time. (less than 30 sec) and premeasured dose cup. Just squeeze the bottle with the main cap on and the cup fills to desired dose. I reuse the same batch for weeks at time, so that offsets the price difference of idophor.

The only con is that this product creates a lot of bubbles when you agitate it by dumping from carboy or a bucket. The bubbling of starsan is minimized by simply not agitating it as much. i.e using a siphon to transfer out of a carboy.
