Default Winter sucks!

Its cold, snowy and 17 degrees outside. I'd love to use my all grain rig but not gonna happen in this weather. Spring can't get here soon enough. So while I'm waiting for my Grand Cru extract kit to arrive I though I'd make some other stuff while I wait.
3 gallons of hard cider, 1 gallon of Ed Worts apfelwein, 1 gallon of blackberry melomel , and last but not least a fermenting gallon of lavender mead from Dec 08. Here's some pics.

Anyone else got some stuff Brewin?

I am hoping to brew 15 gallons this week if I can swing the time. One 10 gallon and one 5. Means getting up wicked early before the wife and kids. All grain too.

Oh and the temp here might get above zero by noon time. Was -26F this morning at 7 am. Should be colder in the next few days.

It's clear, slightly windy, and in the high 60's here in LA today.

I feel your pain! I had -23 this morning. I worked outside all day too. THAT SUCKED. I am hoping tomorrow I can keg my Hef and start a batch of Apfelwein.

Default Winter Does Suck

But it is possible to brew in below freezing temps. My last 3 brews were done at -20 F, +5 F & -10 F. Just bundle up.

Have to watch out for the slightly elevated boil off rate too...

But chilling the wort is a breeze!

When life gives you lemons in Vermont, make lemonsicles.

I don't ever drink "lemonsicles", or lemon snow cones for that matter.

Is it ever really clear in LA?

It is when a ''storm'' (translation: slightly inclement weather) blows all the crap out of the air.

Ah yes, I'm actually enjoying my Michigan winter so far this year. I may change my tune once I do my first outdoor brew in the next couple weeks. Maybe I'll just make more apfelwein instead!
