Default Who Refills Your CO2 Tank? (not your LHBS?)

I live one hour away from my "local" home brew store and will soon need to have my CO2 tank refilled. What sorts of places might do that for me? And what sorts of prices are you getting when you go there?

Look for a place that services fire extinguishers. That will probably be the cheapest cost. Some places that fill paintball gun bottles are also able to fill our tanks at an ok rate. A third place is a welding gas supplier. Check your area and make some calls.

For reference the fire extinguisher place I use filled my 20# tank for $17.

I exchange mine at our local welding supply store. I have a variety of tanks, here are the refill prices:
2 pound-$7
5 pound-$8
30 and 35 pound tanks-$12
50 pound-$20
The 2 pounder is for keg take-out, the 50 was in the barn of a house a friend bought, and the owner of the welding store traded my 2 20 pound tanks for the 30 and 35.
These are all exchange prices except forth 2 pounder, I drop it off and pick it up a few days later since there are only 2 of this size in town.

Airgas. I just swap, too, so I no longer have a shiny tank but I also don't have to worry about hydro cert dates.

So Airgas requires you to use their tanks?

Yeah, most places do a swap and won't fill your tank. They either send them off to another facility to be filled or just can't fill your tank because of policy. So you get a cruddy old steel tank when you swap out your shiny new one.

If I were to do it again I wouldn't have bought my own and just put down a deposit on a swapper. I drive 30 miniutes to get mine filled when the airgas is right up the street next to another place that does the same.

A welding supply shop fills my 5lb tank for $5 (they have a tank the size of my house.) Arigass wants $32 for a exchange.
