I brewed 10G of Biermuncher's Helles Belles yesterday. Pitched White Labs 029 Kolsch yeast (1 vial into each carboy). Pitching temp around 75 degrees or so.

This morning I looked into my freezer/fermenter (68 degrees in there all night).

The carboy on the left seems fine, not fermenting yet. The carboy on the right has a huge yeast blob floating. Interesting, just thought I'd share this picture and ask if anyone has seen this before.

I picked up the yeast from austin homebrew yesterday morning (the vials were in their fridge), let sit at room temp 70 degrees for 7-8 hours, then pitched it last night. No starter.

Apparently this is how Kolsch yeast begins fermentation, because the other carboy now has a blob and both are bubbling slightly.

Very interesting, never used Kolsch yeast before.

That's really strange to see, perhaps not for Kolsch yeast but from my own experience with a few strains.

This yeast is a fast one, first time i used the vial, i made a starter, then after the first batch and collecting a few other samples of this yeast, i now start batches without even a starter and it always hits hard and fast, fast acting stuff.

This one stinks hard for the first few days thought Rhino farts galore, close second behind my favorite being WLP570 which is even faster and smells fruity during fermentation.
