Default Where can I get a decent beer in New Orleans?

topic says it all. Last year when I was here, I went to crescent city brewing co. Big mistake. I've never had such a buttery märzen or overly-estery amber.

I dig what Abita is doing, but I think that's a bit far away to walk. I'm staying in the French Quarter, and I can't handle another slurricane....soooooo, gentlemen (and women), where can I get a good, tasty, and preferrably local brew around here? Somebody must utilize temp control, right?

I think the word in New Orleans is

Around Here, It's Dixie Beer

LOL. I heard the brewery was in serious trouble after the Hurricane. I hope they get it back in action.

You can keep an eye out for NOLA Brewing Brown and Blond ales. They just started selling to the public a few months ago and are starting to show up all over the city. The web site has a list of locations.

NOLA Brewing - New Orleans Lager & Ale - Craft brewing New Orleans beer

There is also the Zea grill on St. Charles and a few other locations in the metro area. They have their own branded brews and the food is great. The beer is contract brewed by Heiner Brau and northshore micro. Keep an eye out for their Kolsch and Maerzen. Thier website also has a locator.

I don't know about local other than Abita, but dba on Frenchmen St. has a pretty huge selection of quality beers from all over. Plus, there's about 6 or 7 bars within a couple of blocks that usually have some good music going. Much more fun than Bourbon St. if you're not a college kid looking to get obliterated on hurricanes.

I guess technically I'm 11 days past being a college kid looking to get obliterated on hurricanes. DBA had a $10 cover, and even coming from Utah that's a bit steep. I did run into a few homebrewers tonight, crazy enough, that took me around and pointed me in the right direction. They'd never heard of HBT before so I passed it on.

To whoever it was that I met up with in Jimbeaux's on Frenchman tonight, to you!

If you are looking for good beer (not necessarily brewed there), I would recommend the BullDog. There is one on Magazine and on Canal in Mid-City. The one in Mid-City is quite nice, nice outside patio sitting.

Steins Market and Deli on Magazine St, you won't be disappointed...

Stein's Market & Deli - Reviews - BeerAdvocate

Oh and all of their beer is refrigerated, at least the last time I was there it was.
