What a bummer. I stayed late at work to make sure I didn't miss the posting. Around 5:40 a coworker came by needing some help. I finished with him, got my Citra into the cart and by the time I entered my address information the Citra was gone. I got a lb. of Amaraillo for a friend, though. At least he will be happy.

I got 1# of Citra and #1 Amarillo, luckily. Looked like they didn't have much. Checked out fast on my phone while at my sister-in-laws birthday dinner, and got what I needed, Also got a pound of Belma and a pound of Centennial pellets too. I use Amarillo like it's water in my hoppy beers.

My buddy is giving me a pound of Amarillo he ordered on his order, since he knew I'd want it.

I think I'm done buying this harvest, other than the english stuff I can get all day long at the LHBS, and other different ones.

3/4# Amarillo Leaf
2# Amarillo Pellet
1# Belma Leaf
1# Belma Pellet
1# Chinook Leaf
1# Comet Leaf
2# Magnum Leaf
1# Cascade Leaf
1# Centennial Pellet

Will probably get some Simcoe leaf and maybe some Mosaic and call it quits if I feel tempted. Simcoe stays in stock at my LHBS all day long.

How much of the Citra and Amarillo was there originally?? I saw 140 or 150 of one I thought and was shocked how small it was.

Get used to it.

Most of the "hot" PNW hops are all contracted through 2014. Some might show up now and then on the spot market.

I saw literal tons of 2011 hops go in 5 mins or less on probrewer.com.

If there is a particular hop you want, be prepared to snipe it from hopsdirect.com or pre-order from labelpeelers.com. Certain varieties are available from yakimavalleyhops.com. Either that or be prepared to pay well over $3.00 an ounce from the LHBS.

Think about it. There are more breweries now than any time since the 1800s. There are even more in planning. They all want the "hot" hops. Homebrewers are at the end of the line. Plan your hop purchases in advance. I'm sorry but there is going to be a shortage for the foreseeable future.

nikobrew.com gets a lot of the hot hops too, but you pay for it with them. usually upwards of $30 a pound for SImcoe/Amarillo/Citra when it's in stock

Those guys are great. They got simcoe cheaper this year and passed a lower price on to all of us.

Crazy stuff when you think about it.
What happens when as homebrewers we have no availability to these "top bred" hops??

Will the hobby sacrifice because we wont have an ingredient that makes our favorite beer "that", or will that never happen and hop farms keep adjusting to the market?
