And my starter wort boiled over on to the stove.

I figured I had some time this morning before going to work so I took advantage and stepped up my starter. Well everything was fine until my daughter wanted more to eat for breakfast. You know what they say, a watched pot never boils! Let's just say the wife is less then excited about it. Good thing I have a flat cook top. 😊

Well I cleaned up the majority of the mess, but I have some scrubbing to do after dinner. Lol

That is one reason I always use a huge stock pot that is very deep. I also never turn the pot on high unless I am standing there. I have burnt up to many unattended pots so I am OCD about it.

Best to move the pot out of the way and wipe it up right away, imo. If you let it cook on there it gets A LOT harder to clean up.

I had a boil-over on a turkey fryer burner, with a large kettle that was full of a Russian Imperial Stout--with black strap molasses. The smell was an amazing caramel smell, but what a mess it made. It was in the garage, but who wants over a gallon of malt syrup and molasses ripening on their garage floor. Everything by the kettle was coated--including my shoes. I also boiled over an extract batch on the kitchen stove. didn't think my wife was going to tolerate another batch after that one. At least it was just a boilover... I had a 2L starter in a flask blowout like a firehose! Shot straight up and splattered all over the ceiling in my brand new kitchen. Not good...the only benefit was the fast response and fresh paint allowed for a fairly easy cleanup (all things considered! lol)

Well it was a 2L starter in a 5qt kettle so I thought I was good (ish). I moved the pot over to a different burner and cleaned up most of the mess, but some of it burnt like rock real quick. Cermabrite and a scotch brite, and it's nice and shiny again!

Been there done that. You only drop the stir bar in after the boil starts once.

Brew outside and all you need is a hose to fix it.

I brew outside on the gas burner but for a starter I don't bother with the big burner.
I do use a pot that's way big for the boil though.

Yep, that sure does make a mess!

One that I'm sure everyone on here is familiar with.

Yup, it only takes a few seconds to happen. Glad mine was outside. Mine put out the burner too. Had to clean that before I could resume because it wouldn't burn properly.

I was thinking about doing that, but I don't have a pressure cooker/canner.

Thats when I started canning starter wort. Now a starter only takes a couple minuets to put together.

That would be a great way to do it.
I've never canned anything though and probably not going to learn just for this.
I have the pressure cooker and use it, just not for that.
