Default Thoughts on possible ingredients for a new recipe

So I'm playing around with the idea of basing a homebrew recipe off of quotes that I really like. I found a photograph of my grandmother, and on the back she wrote "to ollie: with all kinds of violent, purple passion - 'the Red-One'" not sure who Ollie is, but I know for sure her bright red hair gave her that namesake. I want to make a beer that could really capture this quote with it's ingredients and taste. I'm thinking red ale, maybe some purple fruit, plums? I don't know, something! Any ideas on some ingredients that fit this violent purple passion?

Small amounts of lavender are good in beer, and are purple I'm not sure you'd get much flavor out of plums without using like 8-10lbs of them.

Just note that there are different types of lavender. You don't want to use aromatic lavender, you want to use Grasso or culinary lavender, which should be available at any whole foods type store. You want to use about 1/2 ounce (about 1-2 table spoons) per 5 gallons, and I've seen people report good results at either 10 minutes left in the boil or as a 10-12 day dryhop.

The commerical examples of Lavender beers are typically wit or other light styles, but it sounds like it'd be worth an experiment in a Red. It'll probably add more mouthfeel than flavor compared to the malt backbone of a Red.

Good luck!

Wow, I'll have to give it a try then! I'm always open to experimenting with ingredients and styles that seem like they would be strange together.
