Stone Brewing Special on The Wealth Channel
I'm watching a show called "Behind the Brand" on The Wealth Channel about Stone Brewing.
Very interesting look behind the brewery, its founders and philosophy. |
Best. Brewery. Ever.
(hence the avatar!) But seriously, I've never had a beer with more flavor & hoppy goodness than the stuff coming out of Stone. Their restaurant needs a little work, but the brews are consistently mind-blowing. If you have a chance, try their 13th Anniversary Ale. Looking forward to this years' Vertical Epic ale coming out tomorow as well... |
Also some insight into Greg Koch's dominion:

One comment that stuck with me is that they are the fastest growing brewery..I hope they don't get so big that it affects the beers and they lose sight of what made them so good.

I like the restaurant. Good food, great atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff. Our waitress brought me a bunch of free tastings, too.

MoreBeer brew sculpture was being used for small test batches.
SMART Full Digital Package | MoreBeer I could have sworn I saw Bobby (Overbrook Brewery) in one of the pictures. |

Interesting. I'll look out for that episode as a re-run or online. I really like Stone in terms of creativity in their beers and business agenda. What they have done marketing wise has been amazing. Unfortunately, I feel that that they are already increasing production to a level that has had a negative impact on their products. Their more hoppy beers; ruination, 11th anniversary (or whatever it's called now), and their 13th anniversary I think have been hit particularly hard. All of the samples I've had over the last year or so have been very grainy, with an almost dirty hop taste. I think they may have found a cheaper hop pellet supplier, or maybe have switched from leaf to pellet. either way, I haven't been impressed lately. I still think they are one of the better breweries out there and one of the best in terms of what they have done, and are continuting to do to the popularity of craft beer.
sorry for the rant... |
I think they've always used pellet hops. It could be a different supplier, or maybe just different weather conditions that had adverse effects on the crop.

Their beers are good ( and i've had many ) but, I think they are becoming to mainstream..but that is what they are shooting for.
