Looks like they started using soda lime in the 40s but maybe not exclusively until more recently.

Thanks for the alcohol Fedex agreement. Now if some family or friends out of state want some homebrew, If they are really worried about it , we can cover ourselves and they can get some homebrew. I bet its still really expensive to ship a 12 pack of something.

Just an FYI, when I lived in Hawaii my parents sent me some Skullsplitter in a flat rate box through USPS. One of the bottles broke in transit. USPS taped up the damage and nothing was ever said about it.

I tried to ship a bunch of bottles of beer from San Deigo to home a few years ago. One box made it and the other didn't. I can only assume the box that didn't make it broke at the warehouse. A damn shame, because that was the box with all the big bottles in it - mainly Russian River and Lost Abbey. But UPS never complained that I didn't do an alcohol form, nor did they really admit to any breakage. They just "lost" the package.

I just shipped a case of homebrew Ohio to New Jersey, following the forum sticky. No questions, no issues. Cost was 17 and some change. Company was Fed Ex.
