Default Probe thermometer

How far can I stick this in water. Its a Taylor. Can I put the probe in the mash tun. Will it hurt if water contacts the beginning of the wire/probe.

I stick my Taylor thermometer probes in both while testing mash and the kettle while cooling.

I do sanitize the probe prior to cooling. As long as you put the probe in without letting the wort come over the wire portion, it should be ok. If it does go bad you could bake the probe in the oven for 30 minutes and i've fixed one that way.

If you do a search also, there's a guide on how to waterproof your probe with aquarium tubing.

So water can contact the probe/wire transition? Or all the way up to the headphone jack plugin like thing?

No. I would not let the water/wort touch where the wire meets the probe. Just the actual probe lortion can be submerged. You'll start getting error messages if you do. If you water-proof it you may be ok...

Thanks. Exactly what I looking for. One more. When in the mash tun steam wont give me error msg's if the probe/wire meeting part is in there too?
