Default poolside brews ???

Planning on hitting the LHBS for supplies today or tomorrow. Got my propane burner & fermentation chamber built. Thinking about a KOLSCH or CREAM ALE, something light for drinking poolside. I tried a St.Arnold's SANTOS the other day and loved it. Its a "dark kolsch"

Any thoughts on what to add to a regular kolsch recipe to make it more malty & a little darker? Raising the ABV is totally OK too. Looking for somehting the SWMBO would like. She's a Stella/Smitwicks gal.

Any recommendations on other brews that go well with sitting by the pool when its 105* outside?

I brewed a Kolsch for my step-dad (German guy). I used a kit from Brewer's Best (in the process of switching to AG). I just racked to secondary so I'll know better in a few weeks. We will definitely be enjoying some poolside (if there is any left in time).

The thing about Kolsch is the taste deteriorates quickly in the glass. Which is why in Germany it is served in 0.2L glasses (traditionally). So I guess it depends on how fast you'll be drinking while poolside!

I personally believe that any cold beer is great/essential poolside on a hot day! Of course I would prefer a lighter beer than a stout for example. IPA's are my favorite for any weather.

Cheers

The Centennial Blonde recipe that's somewhere in the recipe board is good. Light and refreshing, but certainly not tasteless.

Totally agree! I plan on making up a another batch this weekend. It'll probably be long gone before pool season starts here though (mid/late June for normal people with no masochistic tendencies).

Brew a deliciously tart berliner.
