For those who know the SWMBO has been a PIMA for 2 weeks (ok, not really, but you know) Anyway, she's outta here next week for 10 days for a vacation she planned eons ago....which means A) no SWMBO B) I can fill my empty carboys!

Which brings me here, I'll have the following vessels to use:

2 6.5 gallon carboys
1 6 gallon better bottle
1 5 gallon carboy

One of my 5 gallon carboys has some Apfelwein chillin' like a villan, and I think I'll use the 6 gallon better bottle for some Apfelwein.

I was also thinking that I could make something that didn't need a secondary, like another Hefe or something so I could make best use of my vessels.

I've been toying around with the idea of BierMuncher's SNPA in extract, but I can't do a boil that big! I have a 3 gallon brew pot.

4 brews in the next 2 weeks, not even, throw some ish out there. And of course I'll be making starters for all, need another stir rod though :D

stop being a smart ass and answer my question in your Apfelwein thread :D

Oh, and thanks for planting the seed about 26 gallons of Apfelwein ready for the holidays!

I'm planning the same thing in about 6 weeks. I'm so eager for the time to come. I've got it all planned out. Gonna do a Trappist style ale, dark, similar to rochefort 10. Following that with a traditional hefe so I have something to drink and can empty a carboy for brewing a couple weeks later, a pumpkin spice for the fall/winter and haven't decided on the 4th. Either a pale ale or a stout.

I've never done one, but I visited belgium recently and tried them all and... wow, they are in a league of their own. I absolutely have to make one now.

my buds requested a trappist sometime....

I also am going to make more Ginger Beers too

98EXL, you should do my Rochefort 10 clone. It turned out pretty damn close to the real thang. It'll be awhile before it's ready to drink, but if you do it now, it'll be ready for fall.

You should also try my Double IPA recipe.

Maybe do a dunkelweizen for something a little different. It'll be fall by the time things are ready to drink, so I'd do a porter (or a smoked porter), something nice and smooth for cool evenings. I've got an oatmeal stout on the docket for this reason.

Brew sessions like this are fun. It sounds like you have a pretty good start on what you want to make. I definitly suggest that you throw somthing dark in their, Robust Porter comes to mind, so that you're all ready for the winter months. I personally want to try and get a Dunkelweizen, my Pale, and a Pumpkin Ale all done by the end of the weekend. We shall see if that actually happens. =D I might save the Pumpkin Ale for a bit later who knows...

I'm not that big of a porter fan, but I bottled an oatmeal stout I think 2 weeks ago...I should make another, I washed the yeast

I was thinking about AHS's Black Ale, looks so good!

It's a favorite. I did a blind taste test at a party about three weeks ago of mine against the bottled version. Mine had been kegged for about 3 weeks so it was every bit as clear as the bottled.
Gave em a sample of the commercial...instructing them to remember what the commercial tasted like
Gave em a sip of water…
Then I proceed to give them alternating (blind) samples of mine and the commercial, with sips of water in between. Did this about 3 times.
Finally, placed two samples in front and asked them to take a sip of each and tell which was the one they tasted originally.
Not only couldn’t they tell which one was the same as the original sample…by this point they swore I was tricking them and the beers were the same. (Keep in mind they were pretty sh!tfaced by this point)
Anyway, not real scientific, but close enough to tell me I don’t need to buy commercial SNPA anymore.

The only recipe I may brew more of is my new-found low ABV IPA…Maltese Falcon. Dropping the overall grain bill but increasing the Aromatics and Crystal really made a nice malty IPA-tasting beer, at 4.7%. At a 1-1 ratio (OG-BU) this beer really rocks.

Still a bit of haze since it's only been chilled and kegged for 4 days.

So, 98, I gotta ask: you said SWMBO's taking a vacation for a couple weeks. Pursuant to your previous post re: needing pr0n, did things get patched up? Will she be coming back from vacation?

well, since you asked.....she is leaving for 10 days (2 of which are travel days) to go to San Fran for the Rock The Bells Festival. I didn't have much interest in going at the time (a lot of hip-hop and rap, which now I realize I do actually like (figures)) so I didn't want to go. We love concerts/festivals, and she did end up finding someone to go with, so no biggie.

I was wanting some porn the other day because I was too lazy to go look for it at work. I think things are fine, I get her all weekend, except for one tennis match, and she still is gonna look smoking hot for the wedding we are going to Sunday.

I think things will be ok....and she'll be gone for 10 days, and her 'needs' won't be met, so she'll be wanting to come back pronto :D :p

Regardless, I'm ****ing brewing a **** ton while she is gone, just because I know I won't be doing jack besides that, and drinking, and working on the house like always

You can hope, at least ;)

I'm sure you'll be doing plenty of "jack"... have you stockpiled enough Vasoline and porn flicks?

nah, it will be fine

I can't believe I said I won't be doing jack....I should have know that would be coming up!

(oh god, I did it again)

That reminds me - don't forget the Kleenex!

(I can see SWMBO walking back in the door after 10 days...
"Honey, I hope you're feeling better"
"Huh, what do you mean?"
"Looks like you had a cold - the trash can is overflowing with tissues!"
"Uh... yeah... I had a cold...")

oh, she knows better than that.....she knows it's strictly business :D

Just flush 'em, dammit!

I didn't think we had to go that far ;)

I brought my brew log to work today

Since April 1st, I've done 16 brews, and have 3 different strains of yeast in my fridge

I think that's pretty damn good for a n00b! :rockin:

I've had these sitting in my AHS wishlist all day today:

Blue Moon Belgian White (02519)
AHS Promotional Black Ale (06439)
more yeast for Apfelwein
and another stir rod :D
Total Wishlist $51.18

but then again, I have my brew log with me to go to the LHBS, a container for more LME (save $3!) and I'm torn.........so indecisive. I do need some more DME for starters either way, so I'm going to the LBHS after work regardless...but I'm wondering if I should get something while I'm there

I'd have to pick up yeast from the LHBS if I order from AHS....

and a burner.....but for now, I like brewing in the AC....but come fall and winter....I'll be outside with a burner and big kettle sitting in my Lazy-boy-garage-chair....yeah, that's right...nice pleather garage chair! I just can't do it in the summer, to hot.

I think I've finally come up with a game plan for this event:

Buy yeasties for Fat Tire Clone, Blue Moon Clone, and that AHS Black Ale, some DME for more starters, and sugar for more Apfelwein.

Place order with AHS for the 3 kits

Then debate weather to go back and get another Oatmeal Stout and another IPA (since I have yeast for them already)

I can do 4 in 10 days...so long as the first two get done fermenting in a week....I may need more carboys

You can still heat your mash & sparge water on the stove and do the boil outside like I used to. Now I just get some shade and a fan.

Pretty Easy. Most done inside with A/C keeping things cool.

HLT heating water.

And finally, the boil, OUTSIDE.

Now go get that 8 gallon kettle!

That's how we do it. Everything's done in the kitchen but the boil and CFC.

98EXL - If you're interested in playing around with some AG, drop me a PM. I'm sure (weather permitting) we'll be brewing up in Joppatown, and it's just as easy to do a 10g batch as it is to do 5, so if you want to split a batch - it's all good in the hood.

That's what I do. It's easier for me to control the mash when I'm inside, and it's not too hard to get my strike and sparge water up to temp on the stove. Boiling's outside, though.

sounds good....SWMBO is gone next weekend, woohoo! Splitting a batch would be fine....I could bring a starter for both of us!

I need a 8 gallon kettle....although I'd love to pick up a keggle instead :D

Man, you need to get an 8 gallon kettle so you can do full boils and join the All Grain Club.

SWMBO and I were in Willams and Sonoma on saturday getting some weeding gifts for my buddy and bride when she dropped the bomb:

She's looking for a nice and HUGE SS kettle for me!!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!! Could she be redeeming herself for all the hell I've gone through? :rockin: :ban: :rockin: :ban:

I could forgive and forget, what do you think?

Dude, my neighbor says she knows someone who don't homebrew no more who lives near my place. Gonna talk to his wife see if she wants to offload his stuff. If so, we may get first dibs on some good sheeyite.

Maybe we'll have a keggle for you when you show up this weekend.

[lil_john_voice]YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH![/lil_john_voice]

either way, SWMBO is buying me a nice piece of brewing equipment because she wants to, and is awesome!

I need to get a kettle of sorts, and a wort chiller....I've figured out how to brew in the garage
