Nutritious Beer?

Kinda a weird question; but has anybody else come across beer or beer recipes having some sort of nutritive component?

Most beer is somewhat ok for vitamin B because of the yeast (though uptake is inhibited by higher alcohol content). I mean any beers or beer like drinks that are made or consumed for their mineral, vitamin or other properties....
 
Traditionaly Monks drank beer to help survive fasts these tended to be big beers because the amount of grains helped provide the "energy" they needed.
 
The whole history of beer consumption up until the late 1800's was predicated on two ideas, 1) that beer was safer to drink than water, 2) that prior to the time when we were a people prosperous enough to eat meat with every meal, beer was seen as a caloric replacement for it. It was seen as liquid bread.

The Light lager was created as a replacement for those beers when they fell out of favor as meat way more readily available. So basically ANY beerstyle, especially the old German ones can be looked at as nutritious. And like mentioned above, the Doppelbock was brewed by monks to replace food during lent.
 
Additionally, the residual yeast left over in suspension contains some vitamins and other compounds that help keep you regular.

"regular" is slang for regular bowel movements, is it not?

I thought all beer was nutritious!:p Its not like gin or vodka, thats just booze!

Beer and wine at least have a good amount of what they're made from left in there. Gin and such, well, not so much.

Personally, I love drinking my 'bread'. :D I also enjoy this way of gaining my B-Complex RDA. :rockin:

My advice is post first and think later. Or don't think later... it's not all that necessary.

Just remember, when the zombie apocalypse finally does come (or just the apocalypse) those that can render water safe, and help people forget about their other issues (even if for only a while) will become KINGS!! :ban: :rockin: I just hope that bees are also still around, so we can make mead. :drunk: :tank:

Oh, the zombies are coming alright... I cried during a DVD viewing of Para-Norman recently... Agreed 100% except for the mead part.

Personally, I don't mind/care that mead doesn't have the nutritional value that beer does. It cures other ailments. :D Almost as effective as Fukitol... :D

I'm well versed with the idea of fermenting a beverage to gain the b-complex benefits, namely fruit juices. It's very easy to add a pinch of yeast to some fruit juice (preservative free, of course) wait a day or two an reap the benefits.

I was referring more to the idea of a beer-beverage consumed namely for its nutritional content, as above noted with the Chicha.

I've done some reading about adding adjuncts like blackstrap molasses which adds bitterness and a slight caramel flavor (really, molasses flavor) to finished dark beers for the sole purpose of improving the body and mineral content of the finished beer.
