MoreBeer gets the nod on this order, good call. Free over $59 on most orders. As for the bottle caps from NB: Think about how many caps you can jam into a USPS flat rate box... food for thought

I agree ordering from NB now would really only work out for larger orders, I think primarily because the only shipping service offered is through UPS.

Another thing I take into consideration when ordering online is whether or not I'm getting charged tax. I pay about 10% sales tax at my LHBS, and that tends to make paying for shipping less of a problem, since I don't pay sales tax for most online stores.

I ordered 3 AG kits, 40 or 50lbs of 2 row, and a sack of some specialty from Austin and my order totalled $203 shipped. I just found the invoice and took a quick look at the total. I recently went to buy two extract kits from northern brewer, and my total was ~$180. C'mon man!

There seems to be a lot of negativity against Northern Brewer lately. I can't say that I have personally had any problems with them, but I typically get stuff from them about 3 times a year and some of that is direct from their Milwaukee store, not shipped. I'll have to keep my eye on this and see how it goes. I've always believed you can make a statement with how and where you spend your money and this will be no exception.

I have recently switched to all grain and with shipping prices what they are I have found that for grain and hops my LHBS is not only competitive but cheaper than most online places

I wish I had a LHBS... Nearest one to me is about 2.5 hour drive

...and it's still not very good.

NB used to be my go to online store due to decent pricing and where I live the items would arrive in 2 or 3 days. My last few orders have been from Austin Homebrew. Most orders are 10-15$ cheaper, most of what is the difference in shipping. Austin takes a little longer to get to me but all it does is force me to plan ahead better.
