Made two batches, one with huge yeast slurry, and one with dry Safale-04 yeast.

There wasn't a huge taste difference for me. In fact I like the taste of the dry yeast-ed beer a little more then the huge yeast slurry beer.

I got the yeast slurry from a local micro brewery. They gave me about a quart.

Kona, Fire Rock IPA I made with the yeast slurry.

Cascades / Orange Pale Ale I made with Safale-04 dry yeast.

It could be I just like one recipe over the other. But its so close; so cheers to Safale dry yeast.

Craft breweries tend to use a neutral yeast for most of their beers. Any idea what it was?

To really learn anything from this, you should have split the batch and pitched two different yeasts.

PseudoChef 03-06-2009 09:48 PM

Yeah, you can't conclude anything since it was two different recipes.

Ya your right, now I wish I had split the batches...oh well.

The guy at the brewery took it from the bottom of an ale tank. It must be there house ale.
