Soooooooo much speculation in this thread, it's scary.

Congrats OP for getting fired for buying hops from somewhere else as your employer pockets all of your employee "discount" /sarcasm

Seriously OP - congrats!
we dont know what his profit margin is.. but Id wager markup is more than 25% or he wouldnt be able to keep the lights on.

regardless, the best part would be the smell of grain in your nose all day.

again, congrats on what sounds to be a very exciting new chapter.. hope its super awesome.

At my LHBS hops are $2/oz That makes 1LB $32. 25% off is $24. I can buy hops for something on the order of 1/2 that price online including shipping so how is 25% off a good deal on hops?

Wow. Let's all just chill for a second.

I'm in Seattle.

It's a 25% discount because it's a small shop and he and I have discussed his mark ups and profit margins before, I know the position he is in. I don't see it as unfair at all.

Everyone who works there already buys hops and other stuff online and the owner just doesn't want us encouraging customers to do so.

I don't want to sound like a jerk but.. I have made more money for my employers than I have ever made. I'm helping put food on both our tables. I need him as much as he needs me.

As for where I used to work.... I am in the plumbing & electrical fields, most of my career has been in parts but I have also done a lot of work bidding on jobs with the city, state and military. By trade I am an electrician but have started working in plumbing (parts & small repair). Both are great trades and I have learned a lot over the years but I have no desire to remain in either trade. I want to work around, with and/or brewing beer.

You don't have to kiss ass, but we should always support our employer first so he can keep on paying previously agreed wages.

Great and your employer will reward you for making him money.

I have always told my family members as long they live under our roof for free the should never buy a product from the competitor if we make the same.

Guess that explains why you are a former business owner.
